What We Do
Alianza Agricultura de Taos unites and strengthens our agricultural community through education, collaboration, and stewardship. Our work bridges traditional wisdom with innovative practices, bringing together acequia parciantes, public lands managers, orchard keepers, cattle ranchers, conservation groups, and producers of all sizes.
Our Approach:
Community-Driven: Our programming responds directly to the needs and requests of local farmers and ranchers
Evidence-Based: We ensure all our educational offerings and land management practices are grounded in research
Collaborative: We work across sectors and geographies to break down silos, increase capacity, and improve mutual understanding
Key Programs:
Educational Events & Workshops We organize learning opportunities that blend traditional wisdom with innovative practices across all aspects of agriculture. Throughout the year, we bring together local innovators, world-renowned experts, and our farming community for both classroom and hands-on education.
Examples of our educational offerings:
Soil Health & Regenerative Agriculture: Learning from experts like Ray Archuleta about building living soils for better crops and rangeland
Orchard Management: Comprehensive seasonal training covering irrigation, pruning, pest management, and marketing opportunities
Grazing & Rangeland Practices: Sessions on regenerative ranching, public lands management, and ecosystem monitoring
Water Stewardship: traditional and innovative water management
Expert-Led Field Days: On-site demonstrations at local farms, ranches, and public lands
We design our educational offerings in direct response to our community's needs, ensuring that every workshop provides practical, applicable knowledge for Taos County's unique agricultural landscapes.
Land Steward Community Building Through regular educational and social events, we create spaces for producers, ag educators, service providers, conservationists, and community members to connect, share knowledge, and build lasting relationships that strengthen our community. We are working constantly behind the scenes to support peer-to-peer learning; connect producers with technical assistance, education and opportunities; build relationships, and increase a sense of community among our producers.
Public Lands Innovation We facilitate collaborative learning opportunities between ecologists, range experts, conservation groups, and public lands managers to develop innovative solutions for grazing and ecosystem management on public lands.
Acequia Community Support Working with partners like Holistic Management International, we support acequia-level community visioning and organizing efforts focused on land, water, and community health.
Grazing Innovation Through partnerships with organizations like the National Grazing Lands Coalition's Western Grazing Network, the Quivira Coalition, and others, we connect regenerative grazers with technical assistance, infrastructure improvements, and ecosystem monitoring support.
LandLinking We bridge the gap between agricultural landowners and producers to keep Taos County's working lands vital and productive. Our land linking program helps preserve our agricultural heritage by matching landowners who want their fields, orchards, and grazing lands to remain active with skilled farmers and ranchers seeking opportunities.
Through this program, we:
Help landowners protect their agricultural legacy through active stewardship
Create opportunities for farmers and ranchers to access land through lease agreements
Support both parties in developing fair and sustainable land-use arrangements
Provide resources and guidance throughout the matching process
Help maintain productive agricultural lands in our community
Foster the next generation of Taos County farmers and ranchers
Whether you're a landowner looking to keep your land in agriculture or a producer seeking land to farm or ranch, we can help create connections that benefit our whole community.
De La Tierra a La Cosecha Coalition The De La Tierra a La Cosecha Coalition unites Taos County's four core agricultural organizations—Alianza Agricultura de Taos, Taos County Economic Development Corporation, Taos Valley Acequia Association, and Taos Land Trust—in a groundbreaking collaborative approach to strengthening our local food system.
From the peaks of our watersheds to the food on our tables, we take a holistic view of agricultural vitality. By working together, sharing resources, and combining our expertise, we maximize our impact while reducing competition for limited resources. Our innovative model includes shared grant writing and communications support, allowing us to tackle bigger challenges and create lasting change.
Through this deep collaboration, we ensure that our land, water, and food systems are approached as the interconnected elements they truly are. Together, we're building a more resilient and vibrant agricultural future for Taos County.
